Le Football en Haïti: Ce que vous devez savoir.
C’est vers 1904 que l’on voit s’inaugurer le football en Haïti et ce jeu débuta non pas dans les propriétés des bourgeois mais bien à la Saline.
À l’époque cette discipline avait comme protagonistes les frères Henriquez, les frères Chevallier, les frères Laroche, les Favard, les Prezeau etc qui tous revenaient de faire leurs études en France et ce football n’était pas celui qui se joue actuellement: C’était le rugby avec son ballon à la forme ellipsoïdale. A cette époque le général Thézan était ministre de l’interieur suivant ces jeunes gens avec intéret et voyant dans quelle promiscuité ils évoluaient leur fit don d’une propriété au Pont Rouge pour établir un terrain sportif comprenant le football, l’athlétisme etc. C’est alors que ces jeunes gens se réunirent chez Me Suirard Villard à la rue du Centre ou habitaient les Henriquez ses neveux et formèrent l’U.S.H…(Union Sportive Haitienne).
On a jamais su pourquoi ces messieurs abandonnèrent le rugby pour s’adonner au “football association” à ballon rond. Par la suite se joignirent à eux plusieurs jeunes gens: les Laroche, les frères Elie etc. qui donnèrent plus d’ampleur à ce club et fréquentèrent assidûment le land du Pont-Rouge, ainsi qu’il se dénomait. A l’U.S.H, s’ajoutait d’autres clubs dont “l’Olympique” de Emmanuel Armand, le P.A.C. des Vaval et Co, la J.B.H. des Théard et Co, le B.V.A.C. des Tom Price et Co, le Racing de Saint Cloud et Co.
À la même époque d’autres éléments revenus de France formèrent un club de “football association” dénommé U.A.P.P. (Union Athletic de Port de Paix) avec les Poitevien, Thévenot, Cognac Auguste. Avec les affinités de ces deux premiers clubs de football… les Henriquez natifs de Port de Paix et les fondateurs de ce dernier club étant d’anciens consdisciples ne tardèrent pas à organiser le premier match de football en Haiti au Pont-Rouge: U.S.H contre U.A.P.P.. Le premier sortit vainqueur par le score 1-0 et cet unique but fut réalisé par Constantin Henriquez natif de Port de Paix. C’est ainsi que les équipiers de l’U.A.P.P, beaux joueurs ont dit que c’était encore Port de Paix qui a donné la victoire à Port-au-Prince.
C’est de ce match qu’est sorti l’origine du coup de pied à “l’envers” de Cognac Auguste qui porte encore son nom. Après cela des matches privés s’organisèrent entre les équipes locales. On a eu aussi quelques rencontres internationales avec les équipes de bâteaux de guerre français tels que “Descartes”, “le Condé”, “le Jeanne D’arc”, desquels nous sortîmes toujours victorieux. Toujours par l’intermédiaire d’un ministre de l’Intérieur Antoine Sansaricq le président Leconte fit en 1911, don du parc Leconte actuellement Stade Sylvio Cator, aux dirigeants de l’U.S.H qui formèrent la première Direction Générale des Sports en Haïti qui se dénommait C.D.S.H. (Conseil Directeur des Sports en Haïti).
Peu après, elle fut changée en U.S.H. (Union des Sociétés Sportives Haitiennes). Tout récemment, elle fut dénommée F.H.F.A. (Fédération Haitienne de Football Amateur). Aujourd’hui avec le progrès du temps elle s’appelle F.H.F. (Fédération Haitienne de Football).
